Your Cancún trip's first hour sets the tone, and the airport is where it's easiest to overpay or get steered wrong. Here's the honest rundown of getting from the plane to your resort.
Cancún International Airport (CUN) sits south of the city. From the airport:

The fastest door-to-door option. Book at the official taxi or transportation counter inside the arrivals hall, or reserve in advance, rather than accepting offers from people who approach you. Airport taxis use fixed, zone-based fares that are posted at the official counter. Fares from Cancún International Airport to the Hotel Zone are typically higher than regular city taxi rates, so confirm the current price before you travel.
Since March 2025, ADO has operated a direct bus between Cancún International Airport and Punta Cancún in the Hotel Zone. It's a comfortable, budget-friendly option that takes about 45 minutes, with departures from Terminals 2, 3, and 4 and up to nine departures daily, depending on the date. It's a great choice if you're traveling light and have a flexible schedule, but less convenient if you're carrying a lot of luggage or staying farther south in the Hotel Zone, since the bus stops at Punta Cancún rather than individual resorts. Check the current schedule before you travel, as departure times may vary.
A driver meets you by name, you skip the taxi line, and the price is set before you land. This is the smoothest arrival, especially with kids, luggage, or a late flight.
Cancún's arrivals hall is busy, and you'll pass booths and people offering "help," discounted tours, or "free" transfers in exchange for sitting through a sales tour. None of that is the official transport desk. The move is simple: if you've pre-arranged your ride, walk to your driver; if you haven't, use the official taxi counter or the ADO desk. This isn't a safety scare — Cancún is one of Mexico's most-visited destinations and its state carries a Level 2 "exercise increased caution" U.S. travel advisory, the same level as France, Italy, and the UK — it's just how you avoid overpaying on arrival.
